John Huyler began his career as a facilitator and mediator in 1981. In 1985 he started his own consulting firm and, between 1986 and 1999, was also employed at The Keystone Center, a nationally-recognized nonprofit that creates “innovative consensus-building processes to improve public policy decisions.” He joined his good friend and colleague, Dennis Donald, to form The Osprey Group in 2000.
John has designed and facilitated innovative and successful processes addressing a variety of substantive issues throughout the United States and internationally. He is widely recognized as a facilitator who is able to coax the most out of groups whether they are made up of five or over one hundred people. John also has extensive experience in strategic planning and working with boards and staff, mostly in the nonprofit and government sectors. Prior to 1981, John worked on water issues for the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, as director of an intercultural exchange program in Kenya, East Africa, and as a flight instructor.
John has traveled widely, having visited 45 countries and all continents, including Antarctica. He speaks French, Spanish and Swahili.
John holds a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Princeton University.
